Howard Dean is the man!

Governor Dean put in a solid performance at the CNN debate tonight, in spite of being ambushed by Judy Woodruff.

One More for the Blog

Testing
Back to Peace-Alive. Just testing the new blog.
The first post! Here are some great quotes, courtesy of Richard Reeves:

* "Wherever the standard of freedom and independence has been or shall be unfurled, there will (America's) heart, her benedictions and her prayers be. But she goes not abroad in search of monsters to destroy. ... The fundamental maxims of her policy would insensibly change from liberty to force." -- Secretary of State John Quincy Adams, 1821

* "Allow the president to invade a neighboring nation whenever he shall deem it necessary to repel an invasion ... and you allow him to make war at pleasure. If today he should choose to say he thinks it necessary to invade Canada to prevent the British from invading us, how could you stop him? You may say to him, 'I see no probability of the British invading us,' but he will say to you, 'Be silent: I see it if you don't.'" -- Congressman Abraham Lincoln, 1848

* "We must face the fact that the United States is neither omnipotent nor omniscient ... that we cannot right every wrong or reverse each adversity -- and that therefore there cannot be an American solution to every world problem." -- President John F. Kennedy, 1961

* "It is not in the American national interest to establish pre-emption as a universal principle available to every nation." -- former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, 2002

Here's my new tune "Song for America" which I was inspired to write by going to MeetUps and supporting Howard Dean for President in 2004.

Download the MP3

Song for America
There’s really no denying that medicine ain’t cheap
But the CEO’s are rolling in fields of cash they reap
When there’s people dying cause they can’t afford to live
It’s time to stop the taking, something’s got to give

When every other nation, that we call civilized
Will take care of their people, from birth until they die
Why can’t my home, America, give all of us health care?
Why must I go to Canada to buy my meds up there?

So let’s get together for America
Land of equality, home of the free
Let’s put Howard Dean in the white house
Cause it’s our house, not George Bush’s house
Let’s get on track and take our country back

Well civil rights have come so far, and many more can vote
But there’s still lots of work to do, just have a little hope
MeetUp with our community, together we’ll Move On
Cause the bigots and the racists and homophobes are wrong

Our nation is a Common Dream of a just society.
With hope, mouse-pads and shoe leather, we’ll make it reality
Where all the different stripes of folks can live in Common Cause,
And overcome our differences, our ignorance and flaws.

So let’s get together for America
Land of equality, home of the free
Let’s put Howard Dean in the white house
Cause it’s our house, not George Bush’s house
Let’s get on track and take our country back

If you want a healthy country, better vote for Dean
For fiscal sanity we better vote for Dean
For true security we have to work for peace
To keep your privacy you better vote for Dean
For education funding better vote for Dean
For real diplomacy we’ve got to fire George Bush
Cause regime change starts at home

The credit card conservatives wanna make the government drown
In a sea of debt so they can tear our safety nets all down
With lies they desecrate our flag, with wars they pay their friends
But talk is cheap and life is dear, for them ‘04’s the end

We’ve got to face the fact that we’re addicted to crude oil
And with our cash we feed the flames that make the Mid-East boil
The greedy gunboat ain’t the face this poor world needs to see
From a nation that was built to shine the light of liberty

So let’s get together for America
Land of equality, home of the free
Let’s put Howard Dean in the white house
Cause it’s our house, not George Bush’s house
Let’s get on track and take our country back

And this is Annihilation Rock which I wrote during the first Gulf War. It didn't need to many changes to be ready for another one.

Annihilation Rock
As the knights in sandy camouflage go charging off to war
I sit here watching TV like I did the night before
And when I’m sick of watching propaganda choke my soul
I find a new reality with my remote control

Our leaders seem to live within a fifties TV show
It’s a different world we live in now, but to hear them who would know?
The talking heads apon the screen predict the whole worlds fate
Some say peace and some say war, I hope it’s not too late

Chorus: It’s annihilation without representation
Alone we’re powerless to stop the war
But maybe together, leaning on each other
We’ll build a world with peace for everyone

Well I vote whenever possible but it doesn’t seem to work
The hill is crowned with bureaucrats and our leader’s still a jerk
So I vote with my TV set and each week’s Nielsen score
But all the TV shows combined with never stop the war

Repeat Chorus

So now we’ve got another war, I’m dreading what we’ll see
As thousands die so we can drive our fat ass SUV’s
And when our friends in victory come home sick from the war,
We’ll wonder what this syndrome is, like we ain’t seen it before

And nobody will talk about the children that we slay.
We’ll treat it like a summer flick, Schwarzenegger in a Green Beret.
I always thought “Thou shalt not kill” was the rule in Christianity,
So why are we selling war like a new product on TV?

It’s annihilation without representation
Alone we’re powerless to stop the war
But maybe together, leaning on each other
We’ll build a world with peace for everyone

This is a personal stockpile of pro-democracy links and information.
I just added email links to major news sources in the US. If you don't like the coverage you're seeing on TV, let them know. I wrote the following letter:

"Subject: Democratic presidential race is BIG NEWS! Show more of it.

How about giving more coverage to the Democratic presidential race? This is a democracy still, right?

I am very dissapointed with the hostile vigilante justice our nation is pursuing. The economy is tanking while the tax doging, corporate elite are getting handouts. It's not right and it will not stand in 2004.

It's time for a change, it's time for a choice."
